Afrique en Circe review

An energetic and thrilling performance, Afrique en Cirque is a celebration of the African culture with its team of seven performers who bring heartwarming passion and glee as well as their individual talents in juggling, acrobatics and contorting. The show is set in Guinea where merchants, fishermen and construction workers dance and perform near-to-impossible stunts to the Afrojazz beat.

In 90 minutes, you are immersed into a world of celebration which is sectioned cleverly to show the everyday simplicity of life, from the bustling of street markets, being one with nature when fishing to the friendships formed in construction work, and fills the stage with African dance which exudes much energy and cheer.

The performances are outstanding and jaw-dropping, but the star of the show was the contortionist who puts the audience at the edge of their seats. His body folds in ways that you’ve never seen before. The performance is well-crafted – rhythmic and impressive. Another act that stands out is the beautiful hoop show where the performer and the silver ring spin as one.

Afrique en Cirque is a true spectacle in every way. It’s an insight into ‘being’ and how the African culture has done this. You will be blown away many times over that you will be wanting more. A brilliant treat, Afrique en Cirque is not to be missed this summer!
