The anticipation of Alia Bhatt’s Hollywood debut is finally at an end as Heart of Stone has finally dropped on Netflix. Starring along Hollywood’s “Wonder Woman”Gal Gadot is a huge achievement for any Hollywood newcomer and her performance in the film is not what you expect.
Rachel Stone (played by Gadot) embarks on a dangerous mission to protect the mysterious artificial intelligence system known as “The Heart”. Stone is tasked by the peacekeeping operation known as Charter to keep the object safe from falling into enemy hands.
Spy thrillers are usually about one thing: good vs bad. The protagonist usually is pitted against the villain to protect something from the government. The storyline is the same for Heart of Stone but what makes this film slightly different and clever is having two female leads embodying good and bad.
Gal and Alia play off each other so well that you don’t know who is good or bad and that’s what drives the plot and keeps the audience on their toes. Jamie Dornan can be seen as somewhat the sidekick, where audiences would mostly expect a woman.
This take on subverting audience expectations makes this a great spy thriller with twist and turns that audiences would not expect.
