Horses are very majestic animals and I’ve always loved horses, particularly films about horses. Black beauty and Spirit are films about horses that I grew up on. I just watched the press screener of Dream Horse and would like to share my views on it. It’s an inspirational film about resilience and unity.
The film Dream Horse is a true story of a racehorse called Dream Alliance, bred by Jan Vokes (Toni Colette). Jan works 3 jobs to make ends meet. She gets the idea of breeding a racehorse to turn her life around but has zero knowledge about horse breeding. After doing some research and with the help of others, she buys a mare who gives birth to a horse. She convinces her neighbours to become a part of a syndicate to raise the horse they all name Dream Alliance. Dream Alliance is perfect for competing with racing elites.
All the actors have done an amazing job of playing their respective characters. There isn’t one actor that I didn’t like. Toni Colette has played the leading role and has completely nailed her performance as a Welsh village lady. However, it is the horse that steals the show. The best actor has to be the horse that played the role of Dream Alliance.
My favourite part of the film was the sense of unity that Dream Alliance brings to the small Welsh community. An otherwise divided village now has a reason to unite, stand up for each other and have something to look up to. Especially the fact that all the group meetings happen over a snooker table. This shows how little this community has but still has the humongous potential to strive. I also loved the comedy that is so beautifully written.
I really loved the locations in the film. The Welsh village and the racecourses. The shots taken of Dream Alliance while he’s racing are phenomenal. I also loved how it touches upon the subject of stem cell therapy which can be used to super heal complicated wounds. I also loved the comedy aspect of the film as it was quite spontaneous.
Dream horse is a must watch family movie and it will bring nothing but joy in your lives.
