DUNE’S BRILLIANT CINEMATOGRAPHY LEAVES YOU IN AWE

In his 1965 sci-fi novel Dune, Frank Herbert presented a strange world thousands of years in the future. Getting rid of machines and technology, humanity has gone back to strict social controls. With its brilliant cinematography, this film is definitely on the road to becoming a blockbuster.

The film starts off with rival noble houses rule the known universe on behalf of an emperor. The only way to survive is through a drug called ‘spice’, which can only be grown on the planet Arrakis an inhospitable desert world with giant sandworms and an unfriendly local population known as the Fremen, whose lifelong exposure to spice has given them characteristic glowing blue eyes.

Villeneuve’s Dune is a feast for the eyes. The beautiful landscapes of Arrakis is so vast that you get lost in its beauty, which is a stark contrast to the vicious sandworms invading the planet. Of course, what can we say about about Timothée Chalamet as Paul? He plays the perfect hero finding his purpose and navigating his way in the world. Zendaya obviously slays as Chani, playing it with such beauty and grace that reminds you of how women in the olden times were. Not just them, but Jason Mamoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac and Josh Brolin all are amazing in this film.

Dune is the perfect film, reminding us of the inner strength that we have in each of us and fighting for what is right. After Lord of the Rings, this film the definitely up there with the greats.

Dune is out in UK cinemas on 21st October 2021
