Divorce is not a subject to be taken lightly. It can bring up a range of negative emotions that one wants to get rid of. But Raj Mehta’s Jugjugg Jeeyo is a film that tackles the subject of divorce by disguising it as a dramady. And of course… it works.
The film centres around two couples from the same Punjabi family. Kukoo and Naina (Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani) are looking to get divorced as they have grown apart after five years of marriage. The two travel to India and plan on telling Kukoo’s parents, Bheem and Geeta (Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor) about it. However, they are in for a shock as they find out that they are getting divorced too!
After Good Newzz, Raj Mehta brings back the formula of showcasing serious topics in the guise of entertainment. Whereas Good Newzz tackled the issue of surrogacy/pregnancy, Jugjugg Jeeyo tackles the issue of divorce and the attitudes towards it. Mehta does it in a mature way that doesn’t hurt the audience’s sentiments and shines light on the issue through dialogues and characters.
The film feels like it’s a wedding itself, which further adds to its appeal and makes you forget about everything. A lovely watch.
