KAUN BANEGI SHIKHARWATI REVIEW

The new year is upon us and Zee5 has brought us a tale of family. But not is all that is seems. The newest original series, Kaun Banegi Shikarwati  is a comedy of errors of epic proportions and gives us an insight into what family really means and what truly brings a dysfunctional family together.

King Mriyunjay (Nasureddin Shah) is in the middle of an income tax investigation which threatens his palace. He cleverly brings together his four daughters, Devyani (Lara Dutt Bhupati), Gayatri (Soha Ali Khan), Kamini (Kritika Kamra) and Uma (Anya Singh) together to save his palace; but the issue is, they all hate each other. What follows is a crazy series of events that causes fuel to the fire in their hatred. But does it truly?

Nasureddin Shah is always a delight to watch on the screen. His portrayal of the dense but lovable King Mriyunjay makes you want to cuddle up to your own father and give him a big hug. His dialogues and witty and truly makes you laugh out loud. However, when it comes to his daughters, you see a vulnerability to the King despite his cunning plan.

The four battling daughters played by Lara Dutt Bhupathi, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra and Anya Singh are also great. Lara Dutt Bhupathi as the oldest portrays Devyani with such grace that you actually think she is a queen. Soha as the second oldest also has a wisdom to her, but she’s more relaxed with her approach. Kritika Kamra clearly in her ‘reality star’ archetype will relate to the ‘Gen X’ generation, as well as Anya Singh’s portrayal with her openness. The four women all represent different generations that all women will be able to relate to and understand their motivations. Kaun Banegi Shikharwati is a great watch to sit with your family. As the story is about family, you see the ups and downs, but you also see what in means to be a family in a fun and entertaining way.
