There are only two kinds of films that you would go to watch when you want to feel uneasy. The first is Animal and the second is Joram. Both complete opposites but sure to unsettle you in extraordinary ways. Joram is a that type of survival thriller that delves into unknown territories that no one would even imagine and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The film centres around Dasru (played by Manoj Bajpayee) who gets involved in a cat-and-mouse race when a sudden brutal murder of his wife, his own history of violence and a system that wants him crushed at any cost comes after him.
Manoj Bajpayee is always the perfect contender to play the common man with a major flaw. His presence is always a pleasure on screen, and he reminds us that we are after all… human. He’s a survivor and can fight anything that is thrown at him. On the other side of the spectrum is Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub who is on Bajpayee’s trail and has the task of cleaning up his messes. The comparison between the two shows a power struggle and a realistic relationship that we won’t get in any other film.
The realism is effortlessly done through its cinematography and takes us through the rural areas of India that are hardly shown. It’s very rare that we get a Bollywood film that is so gritty and has an underlying social commentary that even the audience understands.
All in all, Joram is a survival thriller that deserves applause in every aspect. A must watch.
