Shazam! which released in 2019, was the ultimate kid wish-fulfilment fantasy. The story of orphaned teen Billy Batson (Asher Angel) finding that he can turn into a grown-up superhero (Zachery Levi) whenever he says the magic word (“Shazam!”). Ending that film by sharing his magic powers with his foster siblings, a nifty body-swapped super-team was born.
Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Djimon Hounsou returns in this sequel and we see how the super-team use their abilities to fight against the Daughters of Altas, played by Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren,
What really makes the film an enjoyable watch is how opposites are juxtaposed. The Daughters of Atlas with Billy and his family, the comedy and action and the motivations behind the characters. It brings more to the story and gives us an understanding of the theme of siblinghood and its power.
A rollercoaster of action, drama and comedy, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a film filled with everything you can ask for.
